Year 5 Summer Term 1
In Literacy this half term, we will be studying a narrative text by Christopher Edge called ‘The Jamie Drake Equation’. We will base our writing around this text for this half term.
In Mathematics, we will continue our work with decimals and percentages before we move on to study geometry, by looking at 2D and 3D shape, identifying them and drawing them.
During Science, we will be looking at the relationship between the Earth, Sun and Moon. Children will understand how they move in relation to each other and why the Sun appears to travel across the sky and why the moon changes shape.
Other areas of study will include developing the children’s sporting skills in Hockey and Rounders and creating artwork based on the River Severn and the Ironbridge. We will be studying and making bridges in our DT topic.
Year 5 Summer Term 2
Our Literacy this half term will be taught through our Geography project of Rivers and Coasts. In Reading, we will be looking at the text, ‘There’s a Boy in the Girls’ bathroom’ by Louis Sachar.
In Mathematics, we will continue some Geometry work, before moving on to Measures, focussing specifically on volume and converting units.
During Science, we will be looking animals, including humans. We will describe life processes in animals and humans and then describe the changes that happen to humans, as they grow old.
Other areas of study will include developing the children’s sporting skills in Athletics and Rounders and creating artwork based on the River Severn and the Ironbridge. We will be continuing our work on bridges in DT.
