1st Half Autumn Term
This half term, Year 5 will be exploring the exciting text Arthur and the Golden Rope to inspire their writing, including character descriptions, diary entries and persuasive letters. In reading, they will enjoy Billy the Kid through Reading Theatre and discover stories by the author Michael Morpurgo.
In maths, children will develop their understanding of place value within 100,000 and 1,000,000, alongside addition and subtraction.
Our topic work will focus on ‘Why Do Oceans Matter?’ while in science pupils will investigate mixtures and separation. Children will also study the artwork of Cai Guo-Qiang and create their own interactive sculptures. Alongside this, they will take part in netball and basketball, coding, online safety lessons, ukulele music sessions, RE, and learning about how to support their mental and physical wellbeing as they grow. PE days are Tuesday (Netball) and Friday (Swimming).
2nd Half Autumn Term
This half term, Year 5 will be developing their writing skills through a range of exciting genres including letters of advice, diary entries, dialogue, character and setting descriptions. Our class text, There’s a Viking in My Bed, will support learning across English and History, while Beowulf will be explored through Reading Theatre. In Maths, children will focus on multiplication, division and fractions. They will learn about Anglo-Saxon and Viking Britain, investigate the properties and changes of materials in Science, and design controllable vehicles in DT. Alongside this, pupils will take part in gymnastics, netball and basketball, develop their computing skills through online safety and spreadsheets, learn some French and ukulele, and explore healthy relationships, wellbeing, and what it means to be a Muslim in Britain today. This promises to be an engaging and enriching half term for all learners
