1st Half Spring Term
Our theme this half term will be the Stone Age.
We will be sharing the story ‘Stone Age Boy’. We will be focusing on descriptive and instructive writing, using different word classes and punctuation.
Our Mathematics lessons will focus on multiplication and division, introducing the 3x, 4x and 8x table. We will also be recognising fractions and beginning to measure length and perimeter.
In Science we will acquire new knowledge about rocks and sorting different kinds of rocks based on their appearance and physical properties. We will also be learning about fossils and how they are formed.
Our Art lessons will link to our History lessons (Stone Age to Iron Age), and we will be using different hardness of pencils in our sketches to show line, tone and texture.
In PE, we will be playing indoor team games to work on collaboration and perform fundamental skills with accuracy and control. Our outdoor PE lessons will focus on simple rules of hockey, such as dribbling and marking opponents.
2nd Half Spring Term
Continuing with the Stone Age, we will be focusing on ‘The First Drawing'. We will also be writing diary entries and non-chronological reports. We will be working towards writing a recount of the story using all the features we have learnt over the term.
Our Mathematics lessons will continue to focus on length and perimeter, and we will also be learning about mass. We will be revisiting our 4x and 8x table weekly within our Times Table Rockstar homework.
In Science we will be continuing to learn more about rocks and fossils, and the different types of rocks and soil.
Our DT lessons will be based on textiles. We will be moving from 2D shapes to creating a 3D shape of a purse and practicing our sewing and weaving skills. We will also learn about Thomas Saint, a sewing machine patent.
