Year 5 Viking Day

Viking Day

Year 5 enjoyed a visit from ‘Repeating History’ during their Viking topic. We were able to explore the turbulent world of the Vikings in 10th Century AD through a variety of hands on activities and interactive workshops, which helped us to understand more about the way Vikings lived, what they ate and how they prepared for battle. The children enjoyed playing some traditional games such as stick wrestling and dice games, which were made from sheep’s knuckle bones and also took turns at grinding grain on a traditional quern stone. We finished the day preparing for a Viking battle by dressing up in heavy chainmail and helmets, holding spears, axes and shields and learning some traditional Norse battle commands.
