Year 6 visit to Blists Hills

Year 6 children were immersed in Victorian life as soon as they arrived, when they were given traditional Victorian clothes to wear. From there, they made their way to the school room where they were taught by the very strict Victorian School teacher their 3R’s – Reading, Writing, Arithmetic – they were praised for their behaviour! After some exploring of the traditional shops, and looking at the merchandise available, many of us ate some sweets from the sweet shop and sampled old fashioned candy. The afternoon was spent looking at the buildings and trades of the era, and we even got to dip our own candles to take home, which were of course was the only light source for many households at the time.
